Ever since I was a kid, I have been a huge fan of Pizza ! and the honest reason for this are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I would always see Michelangelo ordering a cheese and tomato pizza and watch Him take chunks out making a point to stretch the cheese, and this was my introduction to pizza.
Ove the years, just like you, I have tried many different types of Pizza. Thin crust, deep pan, cauliflower based pizza (I pass no judjement), but without a doubt, my favorite type of pizza is a thin crust Italian.
I am from London originally, and sure we have some cool pizza joints, but its all pretty generic, but here in Madrid, you can really find some amazing pizza places to eat real authentic Italian food.
There are many good pizza places in Madrid to mention, but today I want to talk about what I feel is the best pizza in Madrid.
Trattoria da Piero – The Best Pizza In Madrid (in my opinion)
Trattoria da Piero has been around for around 5 years apx. It is located in the Canillas neighborhood of Madrid, Calle Carril del Conde, 106, Madrid, 28043.
If you were to walk past you would totally miss it as it doesn’t stand out much and is on a side street, but do not let this fool you, the place is clean and tidy and has some of the best pizza you can find in Madrid.
It is a small restaurant ran by a husband and wife, and they really do treat you like one of the family here. They are really warm and welcoming every time you visit and you feel relaxed as soon as you walk in.
The last time we went there in fact, we were there ten minutes before the restaurant opened, and they saw us waiting, so they let us in early, gave us a seat and even a free snack while we waited for opening hour.
So although you can expect some of the best pizza in Madrid, you will not be met by any poncy greeter at the door, just the smell of fresh Italian food.
Authentic Italian Pizza In Madrid
Maybe you live in Madrid and are just looking for a really good Pizza joint, or you are on holiday, but whatever the reason, you really need to come and try the food here.
You hear the word authentic thrown around a lot in restaurants, but this is not just advertising, they really do make the food right in front of you here, so no lies !
Once you enter, there is a bar to your left, then a stone oven right there in the middle of the restaurant when you see the chef rolling the dough and making the pizza with fresh ingredients right there in front of you, it smells amazing !
Once seated, they always bring you a little treat, for free I might add. This could be a little bit of freshly bakes garlic bread with cheese, or Italian sausage, it changes all the time.
Then we order our drinks and have a look at the extensive pizza and pasta Menu.
The Food At Trattoria Da Piero
I have tried most things on the Menu other than their meat section. This last visit, I we ordered the Melanzane alla Parmigiana which is a baked eggplant with mozzarella and tomato along with a Pizza Capricciosa.
The eggplant is simply amazing and there is definitely a difference being that it is cooked in a stone oven. The pizza though is out of this world !
The base is stretched thin and has a perfect crisp to the edge, all of the ingredients are authentic Italian and you can really smell and taste the difference if you eat as much pizza as do.
When I was done with my pizza, I ate the remainder of my friends vegetarian, which may sound like sacrilege, but the vegetables are also not just run of the mill, and you feel the difference in texture and taste with every bite.
The Staff are Amazing
When I say the staff, I don’t actually see them like that. We have been coming to this restaurant ever since it opened, we were introduced by an Italian friend who worked out with the owner, and after trying it told us it was the closest He had had to home.
I have three kids, so it is important that a restaurant is family friendly to us, and you can regularly see the owners daughter or family members in the restaurant, so the atmosphere is very relaxed and a great place to come with your family or as a couple.
Something For The Sweet Tooth
I won’t speak for what I have not tried, but if you are feeling like a bit of sweet after all that pizza or pasta, the Tiramisu and the Panna Cotta are to die for!
Oh actually, I did try the fried dough strips with Nutella once, but I came on my own that time, so I don’t like to talk about it much at home haha.
