Brewer’s Bounty, The 6 Best Places to Buy Coffee Beans in Madrid

Depending on how serious of a coffee drinker you are, you might like to buy and grind your own coffee beans. Are you a coffee lover visiting and looking for the best places to buy coffee beans in Madrid? I’ve got you covered. I really like strong black coffee, and once you get in drinking black coffee, you appreciate the taste of coffee more and develop a taste for certain beans and roasts.

I say I like strong coffee, but you can’t be drinking rocket fuel all day long, so I have a few different types of coffee beans. I might like a strong black in the morning, but others at home like a milder coffee taste and mix it with milk. Depending on when and what I am drinking it with, I choose a different type of coffee.

Does this make me a coffee snob? maybe, but there are few things less enjoyable than a cup of black coffee that came from a burnt bean, or is just too bitter to enjoy. These finer notes are masked by syrups and sauces, but for the purists out there, I want to give you a few options of places to buy coffee beans in Madrid.

Where To Buy Coffee Beans In Madrid

There are a number of places to buy fresh coffee beans in Madrid. Some are coffee shops that also sell the beans, and some are dedicated to selling the beans only. In most places, you are given the option of how fine you want the beans ground, and there will always be someone to give you advice on the types of beans they have to help you make a decision.

1. Cafes La Mexicana Madrid

They have a number of locations in Madrid, the most popular being very close to Puerta del Sol. Cafes La Mexicana is a cosy and charming café that offers a taste of Mexico in the heart of Spain. The café is decorated with colorful tiles and paintings, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

In addition to their coffee drinks, Cafes La Mexicana also offers a selection of beans you can choose that come from all over the globe. You have classic options, then some more special blends and also decaf options. If you are just getting into coffee beans, you can buy the whole set here.

You can purchase the coffee, the grinder, filters, drippers, presses, everything to do with coffee basically. Oh they also have a bottle of coffee here that is aged in old rum barrels and it is out of this world.

Overall, this is my favorite and top pick for where to buy coffee beans in Madrid. I fell in love with the store when I saw this really cool red coffee press in the window, and have gone back almost weekly ever since.

2. Hanso Cafe

Hanso Cafe also featured in my review of the best bagels in Madrid, so it’s not much of a surprise that they have great coffee too. I found this out when I got a black coffee with my bagel here. I usually expect to taste a little bitterness, but the coffee was strong with no unwanted aftertaste.

So when I was paying, I commented on the coffee, and  was told I could buy the beans right there in the store. I was sold, and bought the signature espresso blend they have called Cignoblanco. They also sell a few basics like grinders and an AeroPress set. Another great choice if you are looking for a place to buy coffee beans in Madrid.

Oh just a quick side note, this is one of the many dog friendly cafe’s in Madrid, so don’t leave you furry friend outside.

Location: C. del Pez, 20, 28004 Madrid.

3. Colonial Overseas – Tea and Coffee shop

La Colonial is a Tea and Coffee supplier in the centre of Madrid specialising in importing the best of both from plantations all over the world. They have over 200 tea types, but we are here for the Joe. You will find some of the best Arabic coffee beans in Madrid, but they also have beans from Colombia, Costa Rica, Brazil, Guatemala, Peru and the list goes on and on.

Some shops have minimum orders, but not here. You can order as little or as much as you like. This gives you the chance to try many different types of coffee without having bags and bags just sitting in the drawer at home.

I really like how simple the store is decorated with the wooden shelves and huge sacks of coffee around the store. Oh and they also have a tasting bar in the store, so you can try the coffee before you buy the beans.

Location: C. de José Ortega y Gasset, 92, 28006 Madrid

4. Café Té Arte

If you want to buy coffee beans in Madrid and get the best quality to price ratio, this shop is the one for that. The staff here are super friendly, you get great service and the beans are priced very reasonably for what you are getting. I even bought myself the gift set because I liked their metal tins so much to keep the coffee in at home.

They have some really cool coffee flavors like the hazelnut blend, the cinnamon one is also very good. My advice though would be to get the 6 pack of 250g. You get blueberry, hazelnut, cinnamon, chocolate & orange, vanilla and decaf Cinnamon. A great choice to buy your coffee beans in Madrid if you like to add a little natural flavor to your morning coffee.

Location: Av Reina Victoria, 52 28003 Madrid.

5. Cafes Pozo Madrid

Cafe Pozo has a number of shops selling coffee beans in Madrid. The first one I ever saw was the one near tribunal Metro. The shop looked like it was pulled out of the 60´s with the cured windows and aluminum shop front. It does not look old though, it’s very well kept and that means the owner cares about the store, and customers like the product.

El Pozo has been around since 1871 as a brand, so they must be doing something right. The first time I bought coffee here, I got one that was a little too weak for my liking and I thought something was wrong with the coffee. I went back to the store to ask and I did just buy a weaker type of bean. He gave small amounts of a few different coffees to try, without charging me, and got a customer for life.

6. Deleite Coffee Madrid

This is a cute little shop selling coffee beans In Madrid just around the corner from Prosperidad metro. The guy in the shop is always happy to tell you all he knows about the coffee he sells you and you really see how passionate he is about the coffee.

Most of the coffee beans are of the Arabica variety and there are many options. The Brazil Bourboun and the natural Ethiopian Harrar are the two I have tried from here, and I enjoy both of them a lot. But to repeat, I am a black coffee drinker, so with the addition of milk and a little sweetness you will enhance the flavor even more.

Now if you are really looking to get your coffee on, they also sell the world famous Kopi Luwak coffee. It’s pretty expensive, but if you do try it I would love to hear your thoughts.

Location: Cl. de Suero de Quiñones, 10, 28002 Madrid
