Over the last few years, the fitness industry has really been booming in Madrid, and a lot of low cost chains have popped up opening gyms all over Madrid. Some are better than others, and they do tend to be busier than a higher end gym because the prices are low. But for the most part the gyms are modern and well equipped.
When I first moved to Madrid, there were not so many Gyms so I had to travel around a lot and tried out quite a few gyms in Madrid. - Health clubs in Madrid
- Cheap gyms in Madrid
- Gyms in Madrid for tourists
- Luxury Gyms in Madrid
When you are trying to decide on the best gyms in Madrid, a few things need to be taken into account. The most important of these being budget, how much do you want to spend on a gym membership? Where is the gym located? What type of people go to the gym?
You also want to know that the gym has the equipment you will need for how you train. You also want to know if the gym is busy at certain times of the day, what time they open? Do they have any extra facilities like a sauna or a swimming pool?
If you are coming to Madrid for a trip, and you want to work out for just a few days, most gyms have day passes. If you want a gym membership, most gyms in Madrid charge an admin fee, and if you pay annually you pay less than if you pay monthly.
There are a myriad of other questions you can come up with, or may not even think of. We will talk about all of this, and help you choose the best gym in Madrid to suit your needs best.
If you don’t want to read through the whole post, here are the best gyms in Madrid in short.
The Cheapest gym In Madrid – Basic Fit
The best CrossFit Gym In Madrid – WeZone
The best Boutique Gym In Madrid – Sergio Ramos
The best women only gym in Madrid – B3B
The best Luxury gym in Madrid – David Lloyd Serrano
The Cheapest Gyms in Madrid
Cheap in this case does not mean a dark and sweaty gym, it’s actually the opposite. As the fitness industry has become more popular, a lot of new low cost gyms have been opened up. They are all around the city on every corner, the best thing is they are all new so the equipment is all modern.
The gyms I have been to have always been clean, and you must carry your towel with you and wipe down your machines. They also have cleaning stations around the gym with spray and tissue. Most people do actually wipe down their benches here which is really nice.
Another advantage of choosing a gym with multiple locations, for a small fee you can use all of their locations around Madrid, and even Europe on some occasions. Let us have a look at some of the cheapest gyms in Madrid.
The 5 Cheapest Gyms in Madrid
Basic Fit – from €19.99 a month.
Basic fit has close to 40 locations in the capital alone, and they have two tariffs. You can pay €19.99 a month and have access to one club, unlimited access to a fitness app with virtual classes and you get a free backpack when you sign up.
The second option is to pay €29.99 a month, which gives you access to all basic fit clubs in Madrid. You can also access all 1200 basic fit gyms worldwide with this plan. It is a good gym and has all of the basics you need. The locations are pretty big and all have a cardio space, spinning classes, stretching areas, callisthenic areas and shower facilities.
The only downside for me when I used this gym was the amount of people. The gyms open at 7am until 10.30 pm. If you go at peak times it is pretty hard to find any equipment that is not being used, so you have to get there early or the rest of the day it is just busy.
Xfitness – Day, week and monthly options €6 – €29.99
X Fitness is one of the most flexible and a great holiday gym for Madrid. They have 15 gyms around the centre of Madrid. All modern fitted, with machines and exercise spaces to suit most peoples training needs.
If you need a day pass to the gym in Madrid it will cost you only €6 euros here. If you are here for a week you can get a 7 day pass for €19.99, and the monthly subscription is €29.99. Another advantage is the gym is open from 6 am to 12am giving you enough time to enjoy your trip and fit in a good workout.
The prices are really good for what they offer and in comparison to other similar gyms around Madrid. Check where you are staying and if you have an Xfitness nearby it’s a great choice of gym.
McFit Gyms Madrid
This gym is really great if you get the right location. The one in Ventas is really good, spacious, really good equipment and never overwhelmingly busy. Also very well located in the centre of Madrid so getting there is not hard at all.
If you need somewhere to workout in Madrid for a short trip, you will need to pay the minimum one month fee of €39.90. If you live in Madrid and want to sign up, a monthly subscription will cost you €29.90 a month.
McFit have 8 locations in Madrid, over 250 across Europe, all which are accessible to you when you become a member. One of their most impressive, and best gyms in Madrid is actually in a Metro station. It’s open from 6am-12am and is huge. It has everything you want from a fitness gym, cardio area, weights, bikes, matts, but my favorite is the cage with all the kettlebells and battle ropes.
As the gym is in the Nuevos Ministerios metro station, you are never more than half an hour away from anywhere in Madrid if you use the Metro to get there.
Viva Gyms Madrid – from €29.90 a month
Viva gyms have 11 gyms in Madrid, and even though they have raised their prices recently, they are still one of the cheapest gyms in Madrid. You also have the option of a day pass making it a good gym for tourists in Madrid.
A day pass to any Viva gym location will cost you €9.90 a day, and a monthly subscription will cost you €34.90 a month. The subscription also gives you access to online Les Mills classes, you can plan your nutrition and even create workout plans on their app.
Gyms in Madrid for tourists used to be pretty hard to find, as most gyms would require a membership. The modern gyms understand these problems though, so they offer these day passes so you don’t have to miss out on a workout when on holiday.
FitUp Gyms Madrid
Another great option for a holiday gym in Madrid because they offer a day pass and a week pass. They have 10 locations around Madrid all easy to get to and all the necessities to get a good workout in.
Like most gyms, they also have an application you can download to help you stay consistent, build workout plans and give you nutritional advice.
