What To Wear On A Plane When Travelling To A Hot country

So what to wear on a plane when travelling to a hot country? Does this even make a difference to your comfort levels? If it is your first trip to a hot climate, or it might even be your first trip on a place, you want to make sure you do all you can to make it a pleasant experience.

If you are a frequent traveler, you already know how important what you wear on a plane is for your comfort. It´s important to choose clothes that keep you comfortable during the flight and that are suitable for the country once you get there. I’m a pretty big and tall guy, and planed are restrictive enough without having to pull on the inseam of my trousers all the time.

I live in Madrid, and travel to the UK quite often, and in the summer you really need to be wearing the correct clothing. In July and August you can have a couple of weeks of 40c+ weather. So you really want to make sure you are wearing and packing light clothing that gives you breathing space.

In this article I want to give you some tips on what to wear on a plane when travelling to a hot country:

1 Choose lightweight and breathable fabrics

If you are travelling to a hot country, the obvious and most important is to wear lightweight and breathable fabrics like cotton, or specially designed sportswear that is moisture wicking. This helps you stay cool during the flight and not be overwhelmed by the heat once you land.

Another thing to think about when deciding what to wear on a plane is that planes can get pretty cold. You may be going to a tropical climate, but on the plane it gets chilly. I usually have a lightweight hoody in my backpack at all times, or I take a sports towel that folds down into a pocket, but can be used a light blanket for the plane ride.

Avoid heavy fabrics like denim and wool as they are heavy fabrics, and tight clothing can also be a little uncomfortable. The best clothing for me to wear on a plane has always been a lightweight sports tracksuit, or some loose fitting cotton trousers with a simple hoodie.

2 Dress in layers

As I mentioned, the plane cabin can get a little cold at times. Some of us feel the cold more than others so you want to wear a few layers, but choose clothing that’s not too bulky. If you wear a shirt, have a vest or a tank top underneath, and tie a light hoodie around your waist.

You can also bring a lightweight jacket depending on where you are travelling to, but this can be a little too bulky on the plane, so a few light layers is best when considering what to wear on a plane when travelling to a hot country.

3 Comfortable footwear it a must

When I go on holiday, I don’t like to have more than a single pair of shoes. Maybe one more pair if I am on a family trip or with a partner in case we go out, but a good pair of shoes for travelling is a really worthwhile investment. I also have pretty big feet, and I walk a lot everywhere I go so comfortable shoes are a must.

On a plane, it is also especially important to have comfortable shoes that allow for circulation and are flexible enough to accommodate any swelling. Your feet can swell up a little when you fly, and once you land and you are walking around in the heat you don’t want your feet to swell, not have the space in the shoes and end up in pain with sore feet.

You want to have stylish shoes, but they also need to be comfortable, lightweight, flexible, moisture wicking and easy to clean. There shoes out there specifically designed for travelers in Mind. You can be out walking all day, hiking, getting the shoes messy, and simply wash the shoes at night and they are dry by the morning.

For me, a shoe with these characteristics is the best to wear on a plane when travelling to a hot country. Not only are you comfortable throughout the flight, you can wear the same pair of shoes for the duration of your visit, and not take up a bunch of space in your luggage.

4 Keep it simple

For more than reasons of comfort, you don’t want to cover yourself in accessories when you are travelling on a plane. A watch, bracelets, necklace, rings, whatever it is you like add bulk and inconvenience in a small space when travelling. If you really need your bling then keep it in your carry on to avoid discomfort.

You might get uncomfortable with a watch getting caught on something, or your neck chafing from a necklace because you worked up a little sweat. You can end up taking something off and forgetting it in that little net pocket we have all done before. So keep it simple, don’t wear any bulk accessories and you will be comfortable and reduce the risk of losing your stuff.

This is just the place ride there, once you get there you have to contest with the heat on a daily basis. So here are is a clothing checklist for a hot country:

-Lightweight tops – pack a mix of sleeveless and short-sleeved tops made of lightweight fabrics such as cotton, linen or rayon.

-Shorts – pack a few pairs of shorts in breathable fabrics to stay cool and comfortable.

-Dresses or skirts – choose lightweight, breezy dresses or skirts that can be dressed up or down.

-Swimwear – pack your favorite swimsuits or bikinis, as you’ll likely be spending time in the water.

-Light cover-ups – pack a lightweight cover-up or kimono to wear over your swimwear or as a layering piece.

-Comfortable walking shoes – choose comfortable shoes such as sandals, sneakers or slip-on shoes for exploring your destination.

-Sun hat – pack a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and scalp from the sun’s harmful rays.

-Sunglasses – protect your eyes from the sun’s glare by packing a pair of sunglasses.

-Light jackets or cardigans – pack a light jacket or cardigan for cooler evenings or air-conditioned indoor spaces.

-Undergarments – pack comfortable and breathable underwear, bras and socks.

Conclusion

When considering what to wear on a plane when travelling to a hot country, you also need to think of what the weather is like when you get there. As a general rule light and breathable fabrics that are not too tight, cool and comfortable are the types of clothing you want to wear.

Airports and planes are already a pretty restrictive experience, so be prepared so the trip doesn’t have to be any more uncomfortable than it already has to be. Follow these tips and you should have as comfortable a trip as you can, and get ready for a fantastic vacation!
