Where To Eat A Full English Breakfast In Madrid

WHERE TO EAT A FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST IN MADRID

Living here in Madrid, I don’t have any complaints about the food, there is so much choice and so much great food choose from, the tapas in most small bars you just come across walking around town, or the hundreds of restaurants offering choices from all over the world. But sometimes I just miss a good old fashioned English breakfast. Even when I lived in London, it wasn’t something I indulged in all the time, but there are just those mornings you wake up, and realize you went a bit too far on the two for ones at happy hour last night and the cure is a plate full of sausages, bacon, scrambled egg, but skip the fried slice, your heart will thank you.

I knew you could get an English breakfast in Spain, but thought it would mostly be around the seafront towns where there were more tourists. So I didn’t think I would be eating an English breakfast in Madrid anytime soon. But surprisingly, one of the largest and most popular restaurant chains in Spain has an English breakfast on their menu, and there a re a couple other great options so if you’re over here, and looking for an English breakfast in Madrid, I’ve put together a few options I really like, and hope you enjoy them too.

The James Joyce Pub

If you want to have the most authentic experience and eat the best English breakfast in Madrid, then you need to get down to the James Joyce Pub, just a stones throw away from Puerta de Alcala. The English breakfast is served all year round here, and you get the atmosphere of a pub at the same time, sports on the telly, I almost feel like I am back at my local when I am in here.

This really is a the real deal when looking for a full English Breakfast in Madrid. You get 2 pork sausages, bacon, baked beans (Heinz!), eggs, sautéed mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, chips and toast. Sometimes I will come here at around lunchtime, so I can have the full English, and sneak in a pint without feeling too bad, otherwise I can quite happily have a full English with a pint of Guinness on a Saturday morning !

Now this may seem like a small detail, but the James Joyce don’t just give you the best English Breakfast in Madrid, they also have brown sauce ! Yes, HP Brown sauce, Colemans mustard in the little jar, and heinz ketchup. Nothing worse than some fake ketchup and a full english isn’t really complete if you don’t have these sauces on the table.

So without a doubt, the most authentic, and best full English breakfast Madrid. Want to reserve yourself a table, you can do so at James Joyce Pub Madrid. On a side not, James Joyce also do the best fish and chips in Madrid, but thats another post.

The English Breakfast VIPS

Vip’s is a really popular chain here in Spain, and it seems there is one on every high street. You can’t miss bright red sign with the words VIPS shining bright in the middle. It’s a really popular spot for everyone in the day time, families, office groups, teenagers, then at night time it stays open till 2am, so its also a great place to go if you want to have a quiet drink and something to eat.

They have a variation of foods here, salads, pastas, meats, but we are interested in Vips’ English Breakfast. The reason the English breakfast at Vips is on the list is because I eat everything on the plate, its great quality food, but I still leave feeling light. Eating a full English in a greasy spoon café in London is a different feeling, After eating one of those, you just chug down a can of coke, light up and take a little nap.

So the English breakfast at Vips is missing a couple of things like the beans and the black pudding, but you get eggs, bacon, sausage, chips/wedges, mushrooms, grilled tomato, sausage and some toast. It doesn’t come on a plate swimming in grease, you can eat it all and actually not feel guilty afterwards. The English breakfast at Vips is reasonably priced too at 6.95, you can’t go wrong.

The have more breakfast options at Vips of course, eggs benedict, avocado on toast, but the American Breakfast on their menu is also pretty tasty. That’s a plate with pancakes, eggs, bacon and some chips, but again you can eat it and still feel good afterwards, so make sure you have breakfast at Vips at least one time if you are ever in Madrid.

Mür Cafe

Mur Cafe is the only other place I have eaten a full English breakfast in Madrid, and actually enjoyed it. This café has a more modern, industrial style décor, wooden beams lining the ceilings and is spread over two floors. The menu is pretty extensive, and they have a really good brunch menu with things like yoghurt bowls, vegan plates, eggs benedict, but again, we are only interested in the English Breakfast.

The Full English Breakfast here comes with sausage, bacon, loin, fried eggs, baked beans, hash brown, black pudding, served with toast or a toasted bagel. The only thing out of place on the plate were a couple sad looking pieces of lettuce, but other than that, a very good option when looking for an English Breakfast Madrid.

Final Words on getting English Breakfast in Madrid

So where is the best place to get a full English breakfast in Madrid? The most authentic version is going to be at the James Joyce Pub, the healthiest English breakfast in Madrid will be at Vips, and the English breakfast at Mur Café is not in third place because it is the worst of the three, its just a more modern environment, and I like the feel the Pub gives me, but it is still one of the best places to get a full English breakfast in Madrid.

Now go and enjoy your very own full English Breakfast in Madrid, and leave me a comment, I would love to hear about your experiences.
