I used to play pool a lot when I lived London, but we have a pool table in almost every pub over there. Pool is a lot less popular in Madrid, and to find a bar in Madrid with a pool table I had to look for one, or get luck and just come across a bar in Madrid with a pool table.
No matter how you play, whether you are a professional or a beginner, playing pool with a group of friends gives you an activity to do whilst you have a good time with your friends. It can get a bit loud and some choice words exchanged, but it’s all part of the fun.
So if you are a fan of a good game of pool like myself, let me tell you about a few bars in Madrid with a pool table, and give you a little information on each one.
Best Bars In Madrid With A Pool Table
1. Bar Trafalgar
Considered by Vogue magazine as the new place to be in the capital, the Trafalgar Bar has a black felt American pool table, undoubtedly one of the most elegant pool bars in Madrid. The bar is a mix of restaurant, cocktail bar and bar, combining tradition with contemporary.
The bar gives you the feel of being in a Bar in New York, like in the classic Hollywood movies. Open until 2AM, Bar Trafalgar is the ideal place to go and play a few games of pool while enjoying a few drinks with your friends.
Price: €2 a game, Location: Calle de Albuquerque, 14 (Trafalgar)
2. TILT Billiard Club
Entrance to the club is completely free and has been open since 1999. This is more a pool club with a bar in it. It’s a pretty big place, and you will find American and French tables, as well as dartboards and foosball tables. You can spend a whole afternoon in here without realizing.
It’s a really relaxed and friendly vibe at the club, and if you are strictly looking to play pool in Madrid, the it is probably the best bar in Madrid with a pool table.
Go to their website and they have a lot of package deals. They also have hours in the day where you play pool for free and only pay for your drinks, or a 50% off happy hour. A great option on the list of bars with pool tables in Madrid.
Price: 15,50€ one hour of play + 2 beers, Location: Paseo de Santa María de la Cabeza, 75 (Arganzuela)
3. La Vaca Austera
This one is in Malasaña, and its not just a bar in Madrid with a pool table, its also a bar that play rock music. This place is one of my favourites because it does give me that feeling of playing pool in a pub back home.
The shopfront is really cool and classic looking, and the bar is a little dark and gives you an intimate feeling. A great place to spend a few hours if you are around Malasaña, and for me at least, one of the best bars in Madrid with a pool table.
Price: €2 a game Location: Calle de La Palma, 2o (Malasaña)
4. La Ópera Flotante
Ok so if you want to go to a bar in Madrid with a pool table, and get the closest experience to playing pool in a Pub, La Ópera Flotante is my top choice, and I can get there in 20 mins from my house, so even better.
The bar is in the Prosperidad neighbourhood, a few minutes walk from the Metro station. It is decorated inside like a classic english pub with a large wooden bar, short and tall bar stools, comfortable sofas and the distinctive green covered pool table.
The bar is split over two floors, and if you people don’t just come here to play pool, its a great place to hang out, and they also have 4 large screens where you can watch sports.
Price: €2 a game Location: Calle de Eugenio Salazar, 32 (Chamartín)
5. La Vía Láctea (The Milky Way Bar)
This bar also came up when discussing What To Do In Malasaña, A Comprehensive Guide, but as this is another bar in Madrid with a pool table, it gets another mention.
A classic among classics, probably one of the most well known places in Madrid’s Malasaña district, La Vía Láctea. They have a pretty good pool table at the back of the bar, and I like it this way so you are not having to deal with everyone walking by all the time. It is a busy bar with a lot of people though so you may have to wait a while to get a turn.
Price: €2 a game Location: Calle Velarde, 18 (Malasaña)
6. El Chico Feo
El Chico Feo is a live music venue in Chamberí that has such a cool atmosphere based on friendliness and not judging appearances (hence its name ¨the ugly guy¨) . The venue specializes in live indie music, with a touch of Rock, Pop or Brit. It has license they are open until 6AM, so you can enjoy the blue pool table until the early morning hours if you feel so.
So another option on the list for music and a bar in Madrid with a pool table. Be sure to check out their calendar if you like live music too.
Price: €2 a games Location: Calle de Covarrubias, 21 (Trafalgar)
7. Ciculo De Bellas Artes
Most people are unaware that inside the Círculo de Bellas Artes there is a room with 11 pool tables (9 French and 2 American). Although the room is reserved for members of the CBA, it is common to have open days that are announced in advance through the CBA’s networks.
The room dates from 1950 and still preserves original elements such as the spring markers and abacuses to keep score. It really was a wild feeling when I found this place. I would go to the famous building to visit the rooftop bar, but for the purist, your search for a bar in Madrid with a pool table end with this one.
Price: €4 a game, €8 for non-members Location: Calle de Alcalá, 42 (Centro)
